Author Jim Towns and Anubis Press have released a chapter from the new book AMERICAN CRYPTIC- TRUE STORIES OF THE STRANGE AND UNCANNY online for free during the pandemic.
Towns is best known for HOUSE OF BAD (2013), STATE OF DESOLATION (2020) and TV’s “66 HORROR FLIX”. His next film, 13 GIRLS, starring Sadie Katz, Daniel Roebuck, P.J Soles and Victoria De Mare, is currently in pre-production.
AMERICAN CRYPTIC is an open-minded cynic’s take on the uncanny and sometimes frightening things that border our accepted reality. Through thirteen stories and essays, author and filmmaker Jim Towns examines several legends native to his own roots in Western Pennsylvania, and recalls some of his own unexplainable experiences as well. From folk tales of Native American giants buried under great earth mounds, to a haunted asylum, to a phantom trolley passenger, this work seeks not only to present the reader with new and fascinating supernatural tales, but also to deconstruct why our culture is so fascinated by their telling and re-telling.
Towns has released the story of The Six-toed man online for free.
“The Six-toed Man was a ghost story my friends and I were told as kids, that would scare us out of our wits on campouts. But the real story behind the legend is far more horrifying. It’s a story of racism, emancipation, betrayal and murder. It’s also about the bias with which we view those born different from us, and our culture’s pernicious habit of dehumanizing those who don’t fit in.”
AMERICAN CRYPTIC- TRUE STORIES OF THE STRANGE AND UNCANNY by author and filmmaker Jim Towns, now available on Kindle and in paperback.
Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced that it has acquired exclusive U.S. streaming rights for Richard Stanley’s COLOR OUT OF SPACE starring Nicolas Cage (Mandy), Joely Richardson (“The Rook”) and Madeleine Arthur (“Snowpiercer”). Shudder also announced the acquisition of exclusive U.S. streaming rights for THE SHED, the sophomore feature from writer/director Frank Sabatella (Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet), starring Jay Jay Warren (“Bosch”), Cody Kostro (“City on a Hill”), Sofia Happonen (Woman of a Certain Age), Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction), Siobhan Fallon Hogan (Men in Black) and Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show). Both films will premiere on Shudder later this year.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Shudder members Stanley’s masterful adaptation of one of H.P. Lovecraft’s most influential stories—as well as another unforgettable Nicolas Cage performance—and Sabatella’s inventive new take on the vampire genre,” said Shudder General Manager Craig Engler. “The first half of 2020 has been the most successful in Shudder history, and these two great films will be part of an already-strong second half of the year, alongside titles like Scare Package, The Beach House, La Llorona, Scare Me and our upcoming original documentary on the history of Queer Horror.”
In COLOR OUT OF SPACE, a meteorite lands in the front yard of Nathan Gardner’s (Cage) farm. He and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism that infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare. The film was produced by Daniel Noah, Lisa Whalen, Elijah Wood and Josh C. Waller of SpectreVision, which also produced previous Shudder Exclusives Mandy and Daniel Isn’t Real. COLOR OUT OF SPACE premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is Certified Fresh™ at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes®.
In THE SHED, Stan (Warren) and his best friend Dommer (Kostro) have put up with bullies their entire lives. All of that changes when Stan discovers he has a murderous vampire living in his shed. Seeing the bloodshed and destruction the monster is capable of, Stan knows he has to find a way to destroy it. But Dommer has a much more sinister plan in mind. The film, which premiered at last year’s Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, was produced by A Bigger Boat’s Peter Block (the Saw franchise) and Cory Neal (the Hatchet franchise).

The writer, director, and producer of ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ has informed us of a delayed date for the film release. After preparing for a release date of June 2, 2020 to all major digital platforms and cable, the film release has been postponed until later in the month. While an exact date has not yet been confirmed between Gravitas Ventures and 3rd Fathom Films, fans should anticipate the film to be available late June or early July. The film had to abandon theaters earlier this year after businesses began to shut down due to the severity of the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s unfortunate to announce that the film is being affected by yet another setback under the constantly changing circumstances. While the delay is disappointing, Gravitas Ventures and 3rd Fathom films hope to have a new release date announcement soon. Fans can expect more information to circulate about this film as Gravitas Ventures and 3rd Fathom Films plan a new target date for the release.
Where will the film be released?
You will be able to watch the film on multiple streaming platforms, Hulu Amazon Prime, iTunes, VUDU, Google Play, YouTubeTV, Microsoft, Fandango NOW, and Vimeo. The film will be available for viewing on the following cable networks Comcast, AT&T Uverse, DirectTV, Verizon, Cox, DishNetwork, Frontier, WOW!, Shaw, SuddenLink, Shaw, Telus, and more.

Who is in this film?
Notable stars in the film are Collin Shephard as Devin, Alissa Hale as Skylar, Bryen Lenis as Mick, Hal Whiteside as Robert Freeman, Bill Barrett as CAUCHEMAR, Mamie Morgan as Miss Jess, Lolita Price as Lea, Zander Krenger as Jude, Bailey Campbell as Aiden, and Fiona McQuinn as Jo.
The film starts with Devin, a teenage boy being forced to move to a rural town in Louisiana following his parents’ divorce. Bored and searching for excitement, Devin decides to make friends with two local teens, Skylar and Mick. After being warned by the towns people not to disturb the rest of an ancient demon, Devin, Skylar, and Mick decide to ignore the advice. Regretful of his decisions, Devin’s challenge to save himself and his friends increases in difficultly when the deity becomes more deadly with every passing minute. Superstition, magic, and bad decisions drive us down a small rural road, yet the lurking question becomes – who will survive? Have you ever heard the saying “When man plans, God laughs?” – This statement has never been truer than in this story. After all, some prayers aren’t meant to be answered. Even though Devin, Skylar, and Mick thought their wishes would be granted in the cave, it turns out they should have been careful since not all prayers are meant to be answered. Watch ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ to find out if the wicked will prevail.
Writer/Producer/Director: Taylor Ri’chard
‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ is Taylor Ri’chard’s second film, following his first success, ‘The Final Project.’ This Atlanta-based film director shows his loyalty to the state by filming scenes in local locations and by featuring a crew of dedicated locals well acquainted with the haunted history of the South. Taylor Ri’chard also pays a tribute to his Louisiana heritage by reflecting his French influences through character names. This is a common premise Taylor adds to his screen-writing art and he has done it again in the film through the character CAUCHEMAR. Ri’chard combines the horror genre with authentic folklore and updates the southern gothic ghost story by exploiting a history too chillingly real to deny. Taylor is a huge fan of 80’s horror, particularly, ‘Freddy and Jason.’ Taylor might have created a new horror icon in the film ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ through the demon CAUCHEMAR based on his childhood in Louisiana and Cajun folklore.
2019 Content Creators of Atlanta Award Winner: Best Feature Film, ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name.’

I have always loved the idea of a “horror jeopardy”. Being a long-time genre enthusiast I have even wondered if I have the mettle to stand up against some of the most well known horror historians in the business. Maybe we won’t have the answer to that particular question, BUT we can certainly see some of horror’s best and brightest vie for the title of horror’s top know-it-all.
Hosted by genre enthusiast Peter Hopkins, the Quiz on Haunted Hill takes four contestants renowned for the horror knowledge and pits them against each other in a horror trivia battle royale. With several episodes still left to air:
Horror Hostess Special 2 Quiz: Friday 5th June 2020 at 9pm (British Summer Time)
Horror Host Special Quiz: Friday 12th June 2020 at 9pm (British Summer Time)
The show has also promised a “Horror Host Special” for Friday June 12th featuring David Black (a.k.a. Count Funghoula), Frank Ailsworth (a.k.a. Lord Blood-Rah), James Currie (a.k.a. Al Omega) and Scott Paulson (a.k.a. Keymaster Slasher Poe).
